Voices
A civic education project of the San Mateo County Youth Commission
Just 27% of youth (18-24) voted in the 2022 election.
21% of youth who didn't vote said they lacked information.
Every year, the federal government spends $50 on STEM and 5 cents on civics per student.
Something needs to change.
Introducing... SMCYC Voices
The young people of San Mateo County want to be heard. We have voices, ideas, passions, and dreams. But all too often, structural barriers keep young people out of the political process. The SMCYC Voices project attempts to remove the hurdles that prevent teenagers, students, and young adults from using their voices and creating change within our county. On this website, you will find:

-
Educational Resources: Why is it so important for young people to be engaged in politics? Why is there a civic education "crisis" among today's youth?
-
A comprehensive voting guide: How do I register to vote? What about pre-registering? Where do I put my ballot? Where can I find accurate information?
-
Next steps for eager youth: Looking for a political internship? Want to join a youth commission? Just searching fo a way to create change?

Thank you for sharing your voice with us. We are here to amplify it.
